Anxiety and Panic Attacks

Anxiety is something that we all have to deal with from time to time. It seems woven into the fabric of existence and a certain amount of anxiety may even be necessary to ensure we do our very best. As such, it’s a normal part of living and nothing to be really concerned about – most of us can cope with average amounts of anxiety and lead perfectly healthy, normal lives.

It’s when anxiety increases in intensity and frequency, becoming overwhelming and chronic, that something needs to be done about it. And it’s here that Hypnotherapy and Ego State Therapy can be of real help, because it can provide real help with anxiety, real help with nerves, real help with nervous tension and real help with anxiety and panic attacks.

Severe anxiety can take many forms and individuals may experience high levels of anxiety that persist for hours or even days at a time. Other anxiety sufferers have brief episodes of intense anxiety or a feeling of panic that comes on quickly and lasts for only a few minutes. Often these panic episodes feel like attacks; hence the common term, panic attack.

Chronic anxiety is far more common than is generally known, with one particular form – social anxiety – affecting an estimated 10% of the population. Yet this really doesn’t need to be the case. Hypnotherapy and Ego State Therapy can really help with anxiety and panic attacks.

What causes anxiety attacks ?

The simple answer is: Fear. Or, to be more exact: the fear of fear, or the fear of losing control. Anxiety itself comes after fear. Often, of course, the fear is unfounded and your mind is working against you, leading you into eventualities that exist mainly in your imagination.

‘If I get up and give that speech, I’ll get it wrong and suffer public humiliation’ or ‘If I go into town, I might get attacked…’ This is called ‘free floating anxiety’ and can be triggered by the perception of danger – real or imaginary. It’s as though there’s an early warning system connected to your brain that is overly sensitive to every thought you generate – and it’s constantly working overtime.

The good news is that there is no real reason why anyone should continue to suffer from anxiety attacks or panic attacks. Take the first step today to eliminate the anxiety you are feeling.
